POST ON BEHALF OF Network Rail
Kirk Hill bridge demolition, Sutton Bonington – Focused drop-in session
We're writing to update you on the work to Kirk Hill bridge.
As you may be aware, rebuilding this bridge will ensure the route is clear for electrification if the programme resumes. It will also provide the clearance needed for larger freight containers to run on this section of the line. This will benefit road users and the environment by allowing more freight to be transported on the railway rather than by road.
We will be demolishing the bridge from 24 to 27 December 2025. We will be working both days and nights, for 24 hours during this period.
Carrying out the work during the bank holidays when trains aren't running is more efficient, cost effective, faster and less disruptive than splitting the work over multiple evenings and weekends.
We will be holding a focused drop-in event only for those living nearest to the bridge work site to share our plans for the bridge demolition. We will always do our best to keep disruption to a minimum but some of this work may be noisy.
The drop-in event will be held at:
Sutton Bonington Village Hall, Main St, Sutton Bonington, Loughborough LE12 5NJ
on Wednesday 26 November 15:30 – 18:30
You can drop in any time during the event to see the plans for the bridge demolition, understand the timescales and ask the project team any questions you may have about the proposed work.
This event is to focus on the demolition only so politely ask that if you have any questions relating to the other aspects of the work (i.e., traffic management) to contact the National Helpline on the number below, so we can direct your query to the relevant team for a response.
We ask for your safety that you do not attempt to view the demolition or go near the work site at any time. We will provide timelapse video of the demolition which we will share on our website www.networkrail.co.uk/kirkhill
