Melton Lane update

Melton Lane update following the most recent Kirk Hill meeting.

It was confirmed that repairs to the road surface were ordered on the 14th December – this will probably mean "bespoke patching" of specific pot holes where required, but a conversation is taking place between NR and NCC about a potential full resurfacing the following year (once the Kirk Hill Bridge project is concluded).

  • The state of the verges was also discussed, the sides of the road being churned up as large vehicles are using the verges to pass each other. Via will investigate the verge damage, so we should get an update on that next month.
  • NCC have been in touch with the police, who have agreed to carry out more regular patrols in the area.
  • Discussions have also taken place with Trading Standards about installing ANPR cameras to catch large vehicles breaking the weight restriction – this is currently with Trading Standards.
  • Via reiterated that residents should continue to report lorries breaking the rules – again, this is coming from Trading Standards.
  • While people driving illegally / HGVs breaking weight restrictions are undoubtedly contributing to the problems on Melton Lane, the general weight of traffic is a problem too. Via acknowledged this.
