The Horticultural Society was formed in the 1970's as an association for allotment holders with the primary objective of ensuring that the allotments, owned by the Parish Council, were efficiently managed. Over the ensuing years the scope and membership of the Society expanded to include everyone who was interested in gardening. In 1984 the Society organised it's first horticultural show, a small affair held in the village hall, which became the origin of the large show that has been held on the village playing field since 1987 and which now regularly attracts up to 3000 visitors.
The Society has over 100 family members giving a total membership of approximately 200 from the local community and beyond.
